Privacy Policy.

Effective Date: July 5, 2026. At BunkSafe, your academic privacy is our top engineering priority. We have designed our software so that your attendance data remains entirely under your ownership.

This Privacy Policy describes how BunkSafe ("we", "our", or "the App") handles information when you use our mobile software application on Apple iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Our fundamental principle is simple: we do not collect, sell, or monetize your personal information.

1. Zero Data Collection & No Account Required

BunkSafe is engineered to provide immediate utility without requiring user registration. You do not need to create an account, provide an email address, or link a social media profile to use the App. We do not operate proprietary backend servers that store or process your academic schedule, subject lists, or attendance logs.

2. Local Data Storage

By default, all data generated within BunkSafe—including your courses, lecture records, exam timetables, and custom notes—is stored locally on your device using Apple's secure SQLite / SwiftData database architecture. Because this data resides exclusively on your hardware, we cannot access, view, or retrieve your academic history.

3. iCloud & Apple CloudKit Synchronization

If you choose to enable cross-device synchronization in BunkSafe Settings, the App utilizes Apple’s native CloudKit framework. This technology synchronizes your encrypted databases directly between your Apple devices via your personal Apple ID and iCloud Drive account.

  • Encrypted Transmission: All data transferred between your device and Apple's iCloud servers is encrypted both in transit and at rest using standard Apple security protocols.
  • Zero Developer Access: We do not have access to your iCloud account, your CloudKit container, or any data stored within it. Your synchronized schedule is accessible solely by you.
  • Opt-Out: You may disable iCloud Sync at any time within iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Drive → BunkSafe.

4. Interactive Widgets & Local Notifications

BunkSafe offers Home Screen widgets, Lock Screen widgets, and reminder alerts to help you manage your attendance seamlessly:

  • WidgetKit Framework: Our widgets process attendance logs locally on your device processor. When you tap "Present" or "Absent" on a widget, the transaction occurs entirely offline without external API requests.
  • Local Notifications: All morning class reminders and attendance percentage warnings are scheduled locally by iOS. We do not use third-party remote push notification servers to deliver these alerts.

5. No Tracking, No Analytics & No Advertisements

In strict compliance with Apple's App Store Review Guidelines regarding data minimization and user privacy:

  • We do not integrate third-party analytics software (such as Google Analytics, Firebase, or Flurry) to monitor your behavior within the App.
  • We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA) or display advertisements of any kind.
  • We do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
  • We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to data brokers, marketing agencies, or educational institutions.

6. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

Because BunkSafe collects zero personal information, it is fully compliant with COPPA and global child protection regulations. The App is safe for use by college, high school, and middle school students without compromising student privacy.

7. GDPR & CCPA Compliance

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have the right to access, rectify, and erase your personal data. In BunkSafe, you exercise these rights directly on your device:

  • Right to Erasure: You can permanently wipe all semester data at any time by navigating to BunkSafe Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete All Semester Data. This purges all local databases and deletes all synchronized CloudKit records from your iCloud container immediately.
  • Right to Portability: You can export a complete JSON backup file of your academic data from the app settings at any time.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect technological enhancements or Apple ecosystem requirements. Any updates will be posted on this web page with a revised "Effective Date". Continued use of the App following any modifications indicates your acceptance of the updated terms.
